When I had journeyed half our life's way I found myself inside a shadowed forest For I had lost the path that does not stray Ah, it is hard to speak of what it was That savage forest, dense and difficult Which even in recall renews my fear So bitter – death is hardly more severe But to recall the good discovered there I'll also tell the other things I saw I cannot clearly say how I had entered Into the wood; I was so full of sleep and just at The point where I abandoned the true path But when I'd reached the bottom of a hill It rose along the boundary of the valley That had harassed my heart with so much fear I looked on high and saw its shoulders clothed Already with the rays of that same planet Which serves to lead us straight along all roads At this my fear was somewhat quieted For through the night of sorrow I had spent The lake within my heart felt terror present And just as she who, with exhausted breath Having escaped from sea to shore, turns back To watch the dangerous waters she has quit So did my spirit, still a fugitive Turn back intently at the pass That never has let anyone survive

I have never grown out of the childish belief That the universe is there for me to suck And then my guide seeing me behave as if I were a man who's freed himself from sleep Said what's wrong with you, you can't walk straight What's the prerogative What's the prerogative What's the prerogative And when my soul returned outside itself And saw the things outside it that are real Then I could recognize my non-false-errors Non-false-errors Non-false-errors Non-false-errors In my rear-view mirror Non-false-errors In my rear-view mirror Non-false-errors In my rear-view mirror

WHO OR WHAT IS COCONUT DALÍ?
A big band leader from yesteryear? A tart tropical dessert? Or Salvador Dalí's imaginary daughter? Actually, Coconut Dalí is my nom de plume including the ghosts and spirits of a legion of antecedents, ancestors and artistic voices who have influenced me.

WHAT IS THE BEATRICE SUITE?
The Beatrice Suite is a five track album that crosses over between indie, alt and avant-garde musical genres. The name The Beatrice Suite comes from the character of Beatrice in the poem The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri. In real life Dante fell in love with Beatrice and projected all his ideals about the mysteries of love and the nature of Divine Order onto her. In the poem, she helps guide him on his journey to Paradise.

WHAT IS THE CONTENT OF THIS MUSIC?
I took lyrics directly from Dante’s poem and put them in my songs which makes this album a kind of virtual collaboration spanning the centuries. These new compositions are a concatenation of ideas, emotions and impressions inspired by my reading of The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri. Its themes include punishment, human suffering and failure, but also salvation, redemption, divine justice, love and the dignity of the human spirit.

WHY DOES DANTE MATTER NOW?
Looking back 700 years at the meaning of Dante's life, I can say the message that comes through is of a man who hit rock bottom in his personal and professional affairs and survived. Not only did he survive but he crafted a beautiful work of art with a powerful message of hope to pass on to future generations of human beings. My goal is to amplify that message through music and bring it to a contemporary audience. Today, our belief in Enlightenment ideals is on the edge with serious implications for our future as a species. I believe we can still have science-based facts without giving up the notion that we live in a wonderful, enchanted world of creation. This is what I am trying to express.

WHY ARE YOU PUBLISHING THIS MUSIC NOW?
Chronologically, The Divine Comedy begins on Good Friday and ends on Easter Sunday in the year 1300. It is a celebration of the Christian holiday of Easter that essentially channels the rebirth associated with Spring and brings it to a positive message. Therefore it is proper and necessary to release it now. Also, recognizing that our present historical moment is defined by transition, rebirth, death and ascension, as one friend described it, I have aspired to create something that gives comfort to people in the depth of despair, through the sheer uplifting power of language and sound.
