THE GATES OF HECK, PT. 1

I found myself in a deep dark wood
That’s where I lost the way that’s good
No words could ever describe
The loneliness of that chilly vibe

The sun was starting its morning climb
Set in motion by a Love Divine
Suddenly I got a fright
From a ravenous beast who leapt into my sight

I fell down on my trembling knee
Beseeching someone to rescue me
From out of the mist there appeared someone
Dressed like a spider he shown like the sun

“Art thou then the Spiderman
Who does whatever a spider can?
Deliver me from this wretched place
Into the presence of His righteous grace”

“Spiderman was my earthly name
I was a teenage son trying to grab for some fame
Mary Marvel sent me on this quest
To arrest your descent into adolescence”

Whereupon we made a bank
At the cries of the damned my heart sank
No angels would ever hark
To the shit rising up from Charon’s bark

The comic damned did issue forth
Drawn in lines of comic remorse
Cast upon a crashing deck
They started crawling up to the Gates of Heck

Staring up at the Gates of Heck
It’s like a sheer vertical shipwreck
The fallen heroes ascended the heights
Engaged in supernatural fist fights

Like a free-for-all at the Comic Con
Or graphic novels and Armageddon
Take a dive on the nether side
Where fame and infamy collide

The beast within is bound by chains
Held in check by our sweetrestraints
Love and faith keep the beast in check
‘Til it runs amok round the Gates of Heck

Meet me down by the Gates of Heck
We’ll have an eternity to reflect
On all the things that we should have done
And all the comic victories that we have won
